Chitrangda Singh never anticipated making a comeback to the film industry, especially after going through a challenging phase in her life.

Reflecting on her decision to take a break from work, the actress now expresses regret and shares her reasons behind that choice. Following her remarkable performance in Sudhir Mishra’s 2005 crime-drama, “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi,” Chitrangda Singh appeared in Ruchi Narain’s “Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow” before surprising everyone with a three-year hiatus. Later in her career, she took another break. In a candid conversation with Pinkvilla, she sheds light on this decision. “If I look at it objectively, I do regret it. However, considering that we are not living in isolation and have commitments to our families and other aspects of life, I feel it wouldn’t have been possible to give my best in both areas simultaneously. Even if I had tried to excel in my career, I might have compromised something in my personal life. It’s similar to the famous line from Jerry Maguire: ‘If this (heart) is empty, this (mind) doesn’t matter.’ This holds true, especially for an actor. You need to be in a balanced state internally. So, I think it was partly due to that realization, and at that moment, I did what I thought was best,” Chitrangda shares with Pinkvilla.

When discussing her return to cinema, Chitrangda Singh reveals, “I had never envisioned a comeback. I even changed my phone number, fully believing that I was done with it… ‘As a married woman, having a child is a good thing, and I should focus on maintaining a good family life.’ So, at that point, I wasn’t actively seeking work or thinking, ‘Oh, I wish I could be doing this.’ That mindset persisted until after I became a mother.”

She further elaborates, “During that time, we were going through a rough period as well. Therefore, you tend to gravitate toward things that make you feel good about yourself and seek something that keeps you enthusiastic. So, yes, I was fortunate to receive a call from Onir (for the film “Sorry Bhai!”) around that time, through someone I knew, and I quickly agreed to it. It didn’t matter what the project was; it didn’t matter at all. I simply wanted to work during that phase of my life.”
