What: Singer Daler Mehndi had a work visa in America, and was a month away from getting his Green Card, when he booked himself a one-way ticket to India to pursue his passion– of becoming a singer in his home country.
Furthermore: In an interview with The Lallantop, Daler Mehndi said he would “worry” thinking about his future in America, where he was working as a cab driver and living with his three brothers. “We thought we might eventually buy a petrol pump or a liquor store. That was the only work there. But I would think my line of work is something else, I want to be someone, be famous around the world.”
We heard: Daler Mehndi recalled that Dara Singh said if I want to make a career for myself, I can do that very well even in America, there was no reason to go back to India. Several other people also started saying the same thing. The 1984 riots had just happened, and this was the year 1986. I was told ‘Kya diya India ne? Waha koi rasta nahi hai, jaga nahi hai, waise he saare dushman hain wahan humare.’”
